Population: 17 billion
Tithe Grade: Exactus Extremis
Geography: Mineral-rich chemical seas beneath unstable crust of calcified minerals, significant oceanic volcanic activity. Three subcontinent-sized flat hives floating on the highly bouyant seas via repulsor-systems (Hive Tyr, Hive Donal, Hive Ichori)
Government Type: Adeptus Terra
Planetary Governor: Lord Arman Zenobia
Adept Presence: Adeptus Terra, Administratum, Adeptus Ministorum, Adeptus Arbites, Adeptus Mechanicus (Magos Biologis, Magos Genetor)
Military: Rashan Defense Force (Medium / high quality force based out of Hive Tyr)
Trade: Rashan is an exporter of rare earths and isotopes as well as high-quality drugs and medical technology. Massive water-purification plants prevent the need to import water, but like most hive worlds, Rashan is a massive importer of agricultural products.

Rashan is the second most populous hive world in the Ixaniad sector. It started as a rare earth and mineral mining planet during the Angevin Crusade providing much-needed drugs and medical supplies to the war effort. Its location, to the spinward of center, placed it strategically close to the second front of the war, and it was a common stopover and resupply point for the legions battling the Yu’vath.

Rashan has unusual geography. The entire planet is a massive ocean, but the water is so laden with suspended chemicals and heavy metals that the surface tends to form a thick scum-like crust of calcified minerals that constantly cracks and reforms like massive ice sheets. The first settlements on Rashan were built on this crust, but the constant danger of a cracking shift that would swallow an entire city led to colonies installing anti-grav repulsor technology to keep them afloat. Eventually, these colonies grew together into massive, hodge-podge floating cities perched precariously on the crust.

Although technically administered by the Adeptus Terra under the authority of the Lord-Sector, Rashan has been effectively ruled by the Zenobia family for centuries. Their ties to the Sector Navy and the Adeptus Mechanicus as well as able administration and prompt payment of planetary tithes have seen their power uninterrupted despite numerous attempts by the many lesser noble houses that plot and scheme in the hives. It is a curious effect of the persistent dominance of House Zenobia that the political infighting on Rashan is worse than anywhere else in the Sector. Aside from Zenobia, which maintains the facade of aloof control, the dozens of lesser houses are constantly scrapping, scheming, and striving for power, each dreaming that they will be the house to ultimately consolidate enough influence to take on Zenobia. Scribes in the Lord-Sector’s employ on Ichabarr have quietly speculated that House Zenobia’s real talent of leadership is their ability to keep everyone else fighting amongst themselves.

The Adeptus Mechanicus as a significant interest in the rare earths and isotopes of Rashan, many of which have unique properties on biology and genetic coding. High ranking Magi Biologis and Magi Genetor have made Rashan a more-or-less permanent laboratory. Their chief efforts are currently focused on finding a way to create a sustainable deep-sea habitat near the volcanic vents. The immense depth of Rashan’s seas and the pressure and heat involved have proven challenging even for the tech-masters of the Priesthood of Mars.
