The Licenian Heresy
IX Ixaniad Legion
In the aftermath of the Angevin Crusade, the newly-forged Ixaniad sector remained highly militarized for some few centuries as the Administratum and Ecclesiarchy settled into their new roles and the complex mechanics of fighting a vase war changed to the complex mechanics of keeping three sectors fed and productive. As a result, there were still a good many forces to choose from when the Licenian Heresy erupted and the then-Lord-Sector Ixaniad opted to launch another crusade to suppress it.
The IX Ixaniad Legion consisted of conscript-soldiers from a dozen worlds, many of them veterans of battles against the Orks in the Scarus sector. The Legion was placed under the command of Militant-General Augustus Linnaus who had, as a young man, comported himself with extraordinary valor in the final fighting of the Angevin Crusade. Now pushing 300 years old, Linnaus was deemed to have the tactical and strategic knowledge necessary to handle the specific needs of the Licenian Crusade within a rapid time-frame so that his Legion could be sent to more pressing wars.
