III Ixaniad Battle Group

In the aftermath of the Angevin Crusade, the Ixaniad sector remained highly militarized as the complex necessities of waging massive warfare evolved into the complex necessities of making three new sectors productive. The Imperial Navy also experienced a re-organization, splitting those forces that would be remaining into three main Battlefleets.

The Ixaniad sector was deemed least in need of naval support. It wasn’t wracked by Ork invasions like the Scarus sector nor did it have the mysterious appeal of the Calixis sector that so fascinated the Inquisition. Battlefleet Ixaniad, therefore, consisted mostly of those ships deemed too temperamental or antiquated to integrate well into the Battlefleets of the other two sectors.

For all its tatterdemalion composition, however, the quality of the ancient technology on many of the main ships-of-the-line was exemplary, although maintaining them required highly specialized priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus. The III Ixaniad Battle Group, under the command of Admiral Argus Kenshi, consisted of his flagship, the massive battleship Innocence, two ancient Grand Cruisers, a half dozen light cruisers, and a small flotilla of escort ships. These were the ships charged with transporting the IX Legion of the Imperial Guard as well as the Iron Templars on the Licenian Crusade.
